There is life in 36 and adjacent départements. There's even nightlife if you know where to look ... and when to go looking ... and you don't mind hanging out with serious non-drinkers! The bal folk is a much misunderstood phenomenen but if you have any interest in (real) music or social interaction, one worth investigating.

Events usually start around 10pm on a Saturday and continue until 2-ish or 3-ish. Live bands, ridiculously low entry fees (0-7€ average, occasionally up to about 12€ for a longer event) and "everything that France should be but isn't" in one place - people who'll talk to you, no matter what your colour or accent, will give you a lift or a bed for the night if the need arises, and are generally open to any new ideas you care to throw their way.

Best bit of all is the meserised look on a Frenchman's (or woman's) face at the end of their first experience while they're saying "I never knew this sort of thing existed! When's the next one?"

How are you at the mazurka, a bourrée, a sardane or the 7 sauts?

I have edited it for you :-!

Reading between the lines.

Dept 36 is so underated. :ymblushing:

Put that on the official Dept 36 website CR and Châteauroux is back on the map.

x_x I've tried, but Official Dept 36 doesn't want to know: they're convinced that tourists will be satisfied with one lame château and a few stagnant ponds.

Feckem.

:@) I think you're getting confused with 36's other attraction ... and it's still for sale at only a million euro:
Arulliacum - Club Privé

I used to be able to, the sequence of turns is hard to master! I haven't danced for some years now - dodgy knees plus the character & personnel of the troupe I used to dance with changed and I realised I just wasn't enjoying it much any more.

Shouldn't that be doggy knees?

That's a common problem at the moment. I've been asked to rejoin a local groupe folklorique as they've been losing members to accident and apathy. What they don't realise (or want to know) is that some of their members, e.g. my son, gave up on them because it was so much more fun doing five times the number of dances every Saturday night with "real" people instead of sticking to the same programme that the groupe has been performing for the last twenty years.

We'll regularly get 200-500 people turn up now, ages 2 to 90, depending on the place and the band(s) playing.

Does 36 activity ever venture as far south as 24?
