Just read about this narrow gauge railway that runs from Hendaye (in France) across the top of Spain to Ferrol (close to La Coruña) via San Sebastian, Bilbao and Santander..
Looks like it could be an interesting trip..

I love the idea of long distance train travel. Will have to wait for Mark to be a little older and spend his OAP on a train trip.

Looks like that was written in 2003. Lovely photo across the sea at the end.

Yes it looks lovely. My kind of leisurely trip, stopping off for a few nights here and there on the way.

I wish I'd known about it 3 weeks ago - my 17 year old son has just been walking (plus bus train hitch) it!

That's what I thought too..
And you're right Lisleoise.. it's clearly received little or no publicity. (even better :-bd)
We've been along the northern coast as far as Laredo and the scenery is beautiful.

That sounds like my kind of trip too. Another good trip is in Portugal. The train from Porto runs up the Douro valley with some spectacular scenery.

Do any steam trains still run in France?

We had a holiday in Green Spain years ago and it is beautiful.
I've been doing a search for more info. What I really want is some sort of timetable with the stops along the way. Any ideas please Piperade?

Here's a list of steam trains through out France.
I'm sure that the line across northern Spain was featured on the travel program a few weeks back.

looks very interesting.
Snap Peake whilst I was editing mine.
