This is a thread for putting up recommendations about online shopping sites, that you have used, and the company has surprised you by being a pleasure to buy from!! A brief description of why they were so good would be welcome, but try to keep chat fairly brief so we build up a library of good sites, rather than a chatty thread with only a few sites!! ;)

My two at the moment are:

http://www.ubaldi.com/ Recently bought a cooker and cooker hood, brilliant price, good email communication, excellent delivery service. Had to sit down to get over it!!

Also.
http://www.inkredible.co.uk/ We've bought ink cartridges for two different types of printer from these guys, both times the prices were amazing, again email contact was good, and delivery prompt. Cartridges are still doing a good job and going strong!

Oh, and I paid by paypal, so payment secured!! :-bd

One of the great joys of living in France is growing what (to a Scot) are considered exotic plants. I treated myself (still feeling guilty) to a Gardenia from Willemse that can apparently withstand temperatures of -18 degrees. It arrived yesterday, and included with it was a Jasmine des Indes (I looked it up - it is selling for 15 euros) for free. There was a note saying they are sending them out with the gardenias because they go so well together.

I buy everything for the garden from Willemse - nearly always the plants arrive in very good condition, and they have some great free gifts. And they have always replied to any emails I have sent them very quickly.

Willemse

123pneus.com for tyres
mister-auto.com for car parts (half the price of Norauto).

:D dr o has his finger on the pulse of buying car parts and his diagnosis is good!

I have always been a fan of http://www.oscaro.com/ but when I did a 'like for like' comparison for common service parts, with exactly the same makes and part numbers, http://www.mister-auto.com was indeed marginally less expensive in every case. However, mister-auto's delivery prices seem to be more.
For example, a Mann C/30/161 air filter is €10.97 from oscaro and €10.79 from mister-auto. Delivery from the former is €4.90 but m-a charge €8.00. Thus oscaro would be cheaper by €2.92 overall in this instance. Could well be worth looking at both before you buy.

For Landy parts nobody that I've ever found can beat http://www.paddockspares.com/

(All the above is for those of us who need delivery in France and don't return to the UK).

I bought a new Fiskars garden fork from Centrale Brico this week. Very competitive and 2 days from order to delivery.

I've used Discounteo a couple of times for domestic electrical appliances, good prices and fast delivery.

Have just placed an order for some sauces and spices. Good site, easy shopping and they accept Paypal.

Hopefully the goods will be good too.

I didn't realise Eurasie did online shopping - we go there regularly to stock up on exotic items but it's about an hour away so not undertaken on a whim. Unfortunately the online site seems to omit a good number of the items I tend to bulk buy - plus it's a shop I love to browse in and look for the unexpected. They have a colossal range in store that this website only hints at!

This company in Dover will deliver (or arrange delivery) of large items from UK to France (or other countries).

http://www.relyongroup.co.uk/

They do a regular run to France, you can buy a part load, or get an individual delivery.

We bought 2 new sofas in Fenwicks, Canterbury in April. They were sent by Relyon, via France Express for £258 which I thought was a reasonable price.

I'm sure many might disagree with my choice of good online sites, but I have to admit to never having had a problem with SNCF's online ticket site. Despite my shoddy French I have always found whatever I needed very easily. Maybe it comes from regular use of airline ticket sites that gives a natural instinct on how to use travel sites even if they're not in my preferred language.

I've always got on well with the site too, even when I've had to cancel tickets last minute.

SNCF's site is very good, but I've found I've made considerable savings buying at the guichet. The online site won't always let you do journeys involving a change and two separate transactions work out more expensive.
I've had to do a considerable amount of train travel this year and nothing beats our friendly, extremely helpful folk at our local station :ymhug:

I can highly recommend this site http://www.welcome-informatique.com/.

They supply through Amazon.fr as well.

After a nightmare experience trying to get a replacement battery for my UPS I used these guys, next day delivery, no charge.

Unfortunately my nearest TGV station is 70km away - the local station is around 30km away - so online is the best option for me.

Plus I normally know at least 30 days in advance of when I need my ticket so can take good advantage of the 'special' rates, hence most of my travel is in First Class.

we bought vertical blinds from these people ordered on Sunday, delivered on Saturday we are very pleased with the blinds they are custom made as I could not find the size we needed in the shops, they can be fitted in the recess or on the wall' the controls can go either end and the blinds can be 'parked' in various positions to suit your needs A*

www.privink.com is about 40% less expensive than inkredible for my supplies (11€90 vs. £14.76 = 19€92) with free delivery to a local collection point (often more convenient than à domicile) or à domicile above a certain value. Only negative point is them not taking PayPal. I've only had to put their customer service to the test once (cartridge stopped being recognised after a month) and they were quick to resolve it.

I don't see it mentioned above, but www.cdiscount.com can be a good source of bargains. Have reluctantly conceded that I must finally add a smartphone to my material possesions, and Cdiscount is about 30€ cheaper than the rest for my chosen model (90€ vs. 115-130€ elsewhere) Again, free delivery to a local collection point.

:| Now the pound is over €1.35 it's well worth looking at French or European sites instead of just using British sites as your default option.

Good point Tom.

I've been using my old UK credit cards a lot recently to buy things in France. ;)

I always check captainetrain.com before buying train tickets from sncf, more times than not get them cheaper.

Thanks for that one, Nel. That site is particularly interesting if you want to travel between France and Germany. Their site is very clear and the young people who have started it up have been very enterprising :ymapplause:

For carburetor parts on petrol driven garden machinery. These people are good on price for both goods and p&p. All petrol today has some added ethanol, even if it isn't stated. This can cause fueling problems with petrol pipes and membranes, especially on older mowers, strimmers and chain saws, making them run rough even if you can get them started.
