Styles change, whether in the way horses are trained, ridden or "decorated". Today to my dismay, I see too many horses ridden in those ghastly crossed nosebands, designed to stop a horse from opening its mouth.

The other ghastly fashion is the "bonnet" - ostensibly to keep flies away, but really just a fad. Or are there more flies around today than there were 10 years ago ??? They come in all sort of bright colours - Barbie pink, magenta, orange .....

Does this horse look happy ? I don't think so yet this photo has been used by a well-respected saddle maker in France :(

Sort of reminds me of the red bandannas that became a fashion statement round dogs' necks.

I was presented with one at a petanque tournament in Millau a few years ago. Still don't know why and have never inflicted it on a dog.
