I started this thread when the board first opened as the 'Well Hello' thread, not realising how quick it would grow.

Anyway, this is a good place to introduce yourselves.

Me - DaveW who used to be daragh on a previous board.

Hello fellow refugees! Having paddled through shark infested waters I hope I've now come to rest in balmier (if not barmier) waters.

Thanks Andrew, as it seems to be your doing, and don't worry about the green from my point of view as I'm colour blind.

Greetings all

A pleasure to have been invited into such an illustrious collection of like minded folk.
Now let's make sure it works for the good of us all.

Thanks to all involved.

I'd be grateful if we can hold off on inviting too many people in for a while.

A few things need to be done first:

1 - complete the design!

2 - acquire the domain name

3 - appoint moderators

4 - make sure we have some guidelines with regard to things like acceptable behaviour, advertising and so on...

On the latter subject I'm hoping we can employ a lightness of touch at least equal to that seen on TF. As for advertising, well it seems we may have to follow the same policy (of not doing so) as before, if only to protect us from potential legal problems.

Well ! well !well !...oddly enough, I kept wondering where Mr Rose was when there were all the complaints on TF...he is normally so verbose and suddenly nothing...I assumed he had gone on holiday to get a nice new photo of himself sitting in his deck chair

regards

Hi everyone ,

A fresh start and a fresh forum name for me, (fomerly Etvoila on TF). Thanks Andrew for providing this new platform.

You'll probably find me quite a bit on the Electrical and Building side of things as that is my trade, and what I do in France. I can't promise that I will always be there as, unlike Peake, I am not enjoying the fruits of my retirement yet but I hope I can offer some useful advice and experiences of my last 17 years in France ( 11 living permanently).

Hello everyone, thanks for the invite.

How can you possibly be so clever to do something like this in a day. I am sooooo impressed.

We had all better get filling up these blank topics.

Clare :D :D :D

We now have three moderators - KathyC, Peake and hardworkinghippy. We'll see how things go - and I hope peake doesn't mind being 'volunteered', having helped get the show on the road!

The button's already there. It doesn't matter where you are in the forum, you've always got the "Board index" above left with a small arrow.

I set up the forum but hope not to spend too much time being 'in charge' - I want to be able to get stuck in as usual!

That's why we have at the bottom of each page the message:

"This is a non-commercial community forum which is owned and run by its users.
Any views expressed here are those of individual members and not this forum."

The rules should be much the same as before - for legal reasons blatant advertising is a but of a no-no, and I'd rather steer clear of blatant nastiness and abuse, but otherwise I hope that anything goes.

This isn't my forum, it's ours - and that means yours...

Hi all, I never posted much in the other place but it was a great mix of useful info and ascerbic comment which could enliven the day. I'm glad to find some of the prime movers here are the people I've enjoyed reading and from whom I've received help (thanks Peake) and HWH's blog is a great source of inspiration (and she's just over the hill from us !). Andrew was never afraid of saying it how it is without too much (or just enough!) childish sniping.
Good luck chaps I think I will enjoy being green. :D

Congratulations and thanks to everyone concerned who have got this new site up so quickly. Let's hope all the other refugees arrive here in due course. I have to admit that I have already subscribed to two other sites already today as I thought they were where everyone was going. Now that I see that this is the 'real thing', I'll stick to this one.
Keep up the good work.
