Is anyone else having a problem finding Francine farine à pain on Supermarché shelves? Both local Intermarché's & our LeClerc have empty shelves of all varieties.

Pommes.

Red flour beetle seems to be pretty well infesting things at the moment. we found some of these really tiny critters in an en suite shower room. sent them. after freezing down, to the Nat Hist museum in London, where they were identified. The chap there said he has had a marked increase in recent months with these things in the London area, so they are probably multiplying here as well. It's amazing what is alive and well in this sort of foodstuff, last year it was pantry moths, now these, Tupperware shares have increased as everything is kept in airtight containers herein.

I've noticed it too - I used to buy Francine brioche flour but haven't seen any for weeks.
Interesting about the red flour beetle - never heard of it.
I thought the shortage was perhaps due to a poor wheat crop. You can still buy the cheap and basic white flour, maybe the price has gone up on that.

Thank you both for your prompt replies. When we first came to live in France.........2001.......... packaged bread flour was totally unavailable so I used to buy it loose from the local boulangerie, along with the yeast!! (Madame was a bit suspicious of me when I first enquired.) Maybe I could return to the same system, although we've since moved. Hey ho!!

Thanks again, Pommes.
