Gosh, you're not that far south of us. We've had the most peculiar squally day, with strong gusts of wind and bright sunshine interspersed with very heavy downpours. Most unusual for the time of year.

Lots of wind and torrents of rain, lectric off twice, could see worse storms to the south.

Like this you mean?

If I copy from the photo file on my Mac it gives me

And if I do so from Flickr it tells me

"It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image."

I don't know what's changed. I used to just copy from flickr and paste on to my thread?

In spite of the weather there was a big funeral in our village this morning, the 90 year old mother of the previous Mayor.
There was a huge turnout, not just from our commune.
There was a Mass in the church first (packed out) but my friend and I just joined in the walk with coffin to the cemetery. Most of the locals had umbrellas, which were blown inside out, but we had normal NE England winter clothes, hats etc, which were more suitable.

As i recalled earlier, the same happened here on friday 22nd mother of former mayor.
Hundreds attended and with my gammy leg standing for over an hour at the cemetary was to say the least pennible.
But tradition is that everyone in the commune goes to pay their respect.

All gone super calm here. The storm yesterday blew our electric gate off it's track and the legs off my Gifi Scarecrow. He survived Zeus but not Bruno.

I had to stake a couple of plants and small trees which were suffering but other than that, no problems. It's much calmer today but forecast for the wind to get up tomorrow. Fortunately it will be from the west, so warmer :-bd

There was apparently a huge turnout in the next village for a 17 year old killed when his scooter collided with a lorry. Apparently he overtook a camionette and went straight into the lorry coming towards him. A terrible thing to happen just before Christmas.
We didn't know the family, but as others have said, people do turn out for funerals here - the churches tend to burst at the seams.

A cut and paste, from Meteo France,

Yup, this'll test the newly repaired wall in the barn!

Keep safe everyone, I hope this isn't an omen for the year ahead!

I've just realised it's full moon tonight, which often affects the weather.
Have you seen the high tides warnings on the west coast?

Yep! All the road blockades are currently been ignored by the tourists! We have a coef of 092 at 16h00. That'll bring the waves over the sea walls and onto the roads and paths. What people forget is that there can also be small rocks mixed in with those waves.

Very high winds all night here, but this is my 5th New Year in Penmarch and it's always been a bit wild and windy this time of year.

The wind has really got up here and I expect there will be the usual road blocks. But the spectacular waves always attract tourists ... and locals, and photographers ! We always close the upstairs shutters on the windward side ... but I see that the birds are still clinging onto the feeders (must go and refill them !)
It's expected at this time of year here ... it was the same last year in January and our roof was being done between storms !

Huge storm/winds/rain this pm, electricity off for the whole region for two hours.
Good thing for gas cooking, candles etc.
Thinks really must get that generator going.

It's been wild here as well. But our border collie still thought it was fine - why can't we go for a walk?

Orange warning for high winds through till tomorrow morning here. It was sunny and 20 degrees this afternoon, out of the wind it was lovely - weird weather!

A trip up into the loft tomorrow morning to see how many tiles have moved, oh the joys.

Yep. Started snowing at 08:00hrs and we now have 4 inches and forecast to continue until the small hours.
The 4x4 (just a Kangoo) has been moved into the village square. The other car won't be moving for a few days!

Ah well the best laid plans and all that.

35cm snow fell yesterday, so I am going nowhere - 4x4 or not.
