On my Dashboard weather widget I have :
where I live 30°C today
where we go on hols 30°C today
'old home' (Carra Road for those who follow the round ball) 20°C
Aberdeen and Newcastle Emlyn, both at 16°C today and raining as usual
Most of this summer I certainly would NOT have liked living or holidaying in the last two of those! No wonder my bro needs a new boiler  it must work overtime 300 days of the year

All the weather sites I use predict a fairly sudden change of pressure and wind direction down here at about 10-11pm. Then storms.
We've got visitors arriving at Toulouse, first time here, meant to be 9.30pm. Husband is going to meet them, and we're about 1.30 hrs from the airport. So they'll get an interesting first impression of France!
And on top of that , there's something wrong with the battery in the car . Stuck at Blagnac in a thunderstorm?
PG No!

It thundered here last night and rained a bit, looked much darker further south to Montcuq, Agen etc.. Was Toulouse OK, Pat?

Another humdinger of a storm here last night, after rumblings in the afternoon. Woken up by monsoon style rain and distant rumblings. Managed to unplug the necessary just before the first big thundercrack and lightning strike. Then lay awake for hours listening to the rain and thunder competing for dominance!

Last Monday's was an amazing light show - similar to Jonzjob's description. We'd unplugged everything (we thought) but forgot the ruddy TV cable as the satellite dish is semi-hidden under the house roof. One nasty snick when the storm was overhead and we now have to work out whether the Humax box is damaged, or the wiring....... :(( The downside of having modern technology, the stress of making sure it's all disconnected in time!

Once again the storm arrived at 2am but this time rumbled on for two hours, only 30 minutes over head, next to no wind and only 8mm of the wet stuff, just about enough to settle the dust as the ground is like a sponge.

We had a day with very little rain and no storms! Forecast was for a lot of rain and storms most of the day. One day I may actually believe what I read.

We've had more storms this year than we've had since we moved here, never known a year like it.

Some amazing downpours yesterday - real cat and dogs, and peeing cows !
Today, forecast to be dry and sunny is dry so far ... no sun and incredibly windy. Our sea shanty group have a gig this afternoon and this evening in St Malo's walled cité - both for charities - but if it rains .... we can't play :(( (no-one would stand around watching us in the rain even if we could play

St Malo is a lovely place. We used to stay at the municipal camp site at Tarden, just outside Dinan and one of my favourite visits was St M. We were wandering around the walls one day and were treated to a demo from a firefighting tug. They showed all of the equimpent working, including completly cloaking the tug in a water spray. I have some good photos and video of most of the display. It must have been the annual test of all the kit? I'll see if I can find them?

Good luck with yer weather Blaze :-bd :-bd

Sun and lots of wind here too, but showers forcast for this afternoon?

It's looking a bit dodgy at the moment - our first session is at 17h30 so there's time for improvement :YMPRAY: . We're supposed to be picnicking afterwards with a second, longer session at 20h30.

The rescue equipment in this area is far from being the most modern - the SNSM (lifeboats) turn green with envy when they look at the boats in the UK. But that's where the RNLI do so well with legacies, the general support of charities and the gov tax breaks. Not so in France - and in this area, the lifeboats are out frequently. There is an astonishing number of deaths from cliff falls, being cut off by the tide and boat accidents every summer here :(

I forecast thunder in Cantal soon. Every time it thunders, the dogs come upstairs and sleep either side of our bed. This morning we hoovered the bedroom.

From MeteoFrance

I think he does a series of very long exposures on a tripod whenever there's a thunderstorm. He gets some great shots!

Tell me about it! Awoke between 4 and 5 am to rumbles so trundled downstairs to unplug. I was disconnecting the coax cables situated near the window when a dramatic fork lightening appeared in the distance. I remember saying "oh f*** off" as my tired fingers fumbled to unscrew in time (there must be a quicker way).

After having such a stinking hot day yesterday, I should have trusted my instincts and unplugged before bedtime but I was so tired, I forgot!

One of my bookmarks is this weather site:
http://www.xcweather.co.uk/?Loc=FR
I've noticed that it's when there's a sudden change of wind direction that the weather changes (not surprising really?)
So this evening our nearest town on the map , Agen, predicts change of wind to North, and maybe a storm.
But what makes the wind direction change?
