Last night we were treated to rolling thunder storms, lots of lightning and a fair bit of rain in squally downpours. This morning there was a lot of water and the terrace threatened to overflow indoors. As soon as the rain eased off we investigated the drain, poked it clear of leaves with the mop handle and dug a channel the other side of the fence into the vineyard with the dustpan. Now only the grassy area is still under water.
Thank you for your good wishes :ymhug:

It absolutely tipped down yesterday evening and blew a hooley during circuit training (!) and while I drove home. Today is bright and sunny with a bit of a breeze. Apparently 7 metre swells are forecast this weekend, which will make the surfers happy !

That swell mixed with high tides!!

All the blocades and warning signs are up around here.

Fab rough sea yesterday evening. Watching the chalutiers enter the port at Le Guilvinec last night was interesting!

It lashed down here too - one hell of a racket on the windows on the south side of the house. The grande marée in Saint Malo would have been spectacular ... but it was at 6.20am so too dark to photograph !! But I'm sure someone will have done something.

Thunder storms for near as damn it 14 hours. Lots of rain, which flooded my newly tiled but not yet grouted terrace. I cannot see the grouting being done anytime soon with the need for everything to dry out and then the forecast of frosts for the next few nights.

While putting plants under shelter ready for the first proper frost (air temperature less than 0 degrees C- predicted for tonight - I found a plant pot holder that was emptied the other day. It had just short of 2 inches (50mm) water in it - so must have come from last night's storm.

And just for spice, now it is sleeting. Welcome winter.

A little more snow this morning. Only settling in the delves between the roof tiles, but winter is on its way and the first goldfinches have arrived at the bird table this morning.

We got up to quite thick snow today, then it snowed for a while this afternoon. Don't think we'll be slip-sliding anywhere for a few days.

No snow here, but a very blowy north wind. The bird feeders are attracting greenfinches, goldfinches, chaffinches, blue and great tits and the seeds they spill on the ground are guzzled by sparrers and robins. There's a pair of doves that also come and feed. A few days ago, I saw a pair of black caps eating the pyracantha berries - I haven't seen them before. A couple of weeks ago, there was a small group of long tailed tits, but they never seem stay for more than a couple of hours. I was very fortunate to see and hear them - they were just a few feet away (too late to get the camera ...)

Apparently Northern Europe is due an invasion of Hawfincheses - so there is a photo challenge for you Blaze!

Sadly it looks like the cold has finally got to my big pepper plant on the balcony - though the little ones are still OK. May bring them in and see if I can keep them going over winter

I've never knowingly seen a Hawfinch so I'd be delighted if they came here !

It's bright and sunny here and around 7°C. We don't get the extremes of heat and cold that we had in Maine et Loire, which is one of the reasons for moving here. That said, OH came back on Thursday night from the French army school near Rennes in heavy sleet. Not nice.

I photographed one in my garden a couple of years ago (it's here somewhere) but I've not seen one since.

It's absolutely glorious here! I'm off out for a motorbike ride vroom!!

Pah!

All this talk of warm weather. Yesterday we got about 10cm snow while the temperature rocketed up to minus three in the afternoon. Today is not likely to be any warmer.

But it is a good excuse for a vin chaude - and before someone says "why do you need an excuse?" it does seem to have a different taste when the weather is warmer.

The lawn is covered with starlings - dozens and dozens of them. The feeders are heaving with birds as is the ground under the tree where they're hanging :-bd

Minus 4.5 and thick fog. Have a job to keep up with the birds on the feeders.
They have started to tap on the window, cheeky buggers.

Sorry not the clearest of pictures but the best I could muster with a cheapo camera through the window.

Blaze, or other Mod, could you kindly resize the shot please. Despite my best efforts it is still too big.

We used to see a number of them back in the Lot, but rarely see them here, apart from the plefera of bluetits, greattits, blackbirds, robins, and wrens we now have a lot of thrushes coming into the garden an occasional redstart is appearing as well.

Pisscadded down all night and still is, at least its not the snow which they have in the east nor the uk where its blizzard time.
Mami returned with her pa yesterday pm, just in time to miss the bad weather over there.
