I know it differs from one area to another about noisy machinery on Sundays and suchlike. We were planning on hedge cutting in a small hamlet this afternoon as we have to make the most of fine weather days. But as 1st November is such an important remembrance day, would it be disrespectful to be making a din? Wouldn't want to upset anyone.

It's All Saints Day rather than a day of remembrance, so purely a religious day. I've heard the guns popping off this morning, so clearly the chasse continues.
I would just do the job and if anyone does complain, take it from there. There is no obligation to take the day off - some people will still be working. I'm sure a farmer would work today if it was a question of timing/weather, provided he didn't have to someone double time !!

I've yet to meet a practising Catholic here ....

We've taken the executive decision to delay until tomorrow. It's a tight hamlet and we would be semi-blocking the road. Best to be safe I think, don't want to make the journey twice!

That said, we'll be making noise chez nous as we're far enough away and our neighbours will probably also be making agricultural noises! Gotta make the most of the sunny afternoon!

So long as you politely quieten down between 12-2 nobody should complain

I'd forgotton it was a holiday today, obviously so did my tree surgeon who's just finished with his chainsaw :ymblushing:

There are quite a lot of practicing catholics around here, one of them rides a Harley so I doubt he'd object to a bit of noise!!!

It's not fair! It's a holiday in France and Germany but we have to work!

Looking at the holiday calendar I see December 8th is the next holiday for the Immaculate Conception. I'm confused. Surely it should be March 25th (December 25th - 9 months).

Only in Southern and South Western Germany. The rest of the states took yesterday as a holiday (Reformation day).

Well, I had to work, well I volonteered. Ive been down to Bordeaux to collect a large and rather boisterous Dobermann boy. I volunteered because he is going to Paris tomorrow and I am then to collect a much younger Dobie girl from nearby to deliver to the coast beyond St. Nazaire on Friday morning. Fetching him today means I am home for the whole weekend.

So we have this large black presence in the house for the evening. Tosca, my elderly female English Setter is not impressed. He tried to kiss her so she snapped at him. Gets more like Westminster every day.

My wife says she doesn't like him, he is too big and keeps snuggling up to her. But I caught her giving him a cuddle a few moments ago. :))
