Anybody used Scan Computers International, https://www.scan.co.uk/

They seem to be slightly cheaper than French computer shops, and a lot quicker to pick the items for dispatch, I placed an order for a motherboard, at 11.36 this morning, the order was picked at 13.17 and placed for dispatch at 13.23 to day, so far I have had 5 e-mails informing me of the order process, plus an e-mail from the carriers informing me of the parcels location, forecast delivery date 13 or 14 Sept 2016, which if its true, is quicker than Rue du Commerce who are in France

I will post again when I get the parcel

They do a full range of computers, Laptops, and parts, including the cables, which depending on the cable, can be like trying to find hens teeth in France, and around half the price of the French cable, if you can find it on a French computer shop website

Update

Got the parcel today, well packed with plenty of packing, including air bags and bubble wrap, a lot better packing than Rue du Commerce, and about 2% cheaper than RdC

Only slight panic was when I tracked the parcel this morning, it stated that the parcel was in the south of France, half an hour later the parcel was delivered to me

Sounds perfect. Got a feeling OH has used them too.

So far, I agree with you Mad,

I was so impressed with the speed of the delivery, packing of the item (a motherboard, with a stout cardboard box, airbag packs, together with bubble wrap) that I placed another order with them, the order was placed online at 15.30 hrs 13/09/16, it was picked and packed by 17.50, and dispatched at 18.00, today at 20.20 hrs its at Chilly Mazarin, which is just outside of Paris, and en-route to the local distribution depot with an estimated delivery date of Friday 16 September 2016, they use DPD for delivery, here is DPD's tracking data, the last three sets of tracking, it first went from Bolton to Liverpool, and then Birmingham, a bit of cut and paste

Where has my parcel been?
Date & Time Location Description
14 Sep 2016 20:21 Chilly Mazarin The parcel is in transit on its journey to local delivery destination. Track your parcel here for regular updates.
14 Sep 2016 01:56 Hub 3 - Bham Your parcel has left the United Kingdom and is on its way to France
14 Sep 2016 01:55 Hub 3 - Bham We have your parcel and it's on its way to our depot

Which makes LaPoste look both archaic and furking extortionate at about 35€ a "pop", when sending a parcel to the UK, you can reckon on 7 to 10 days to send a parcel from Ploeuc sur Lie to Maidstone in Kent UK, day 1 it rests in the local sorting office, day 2 its at Rennes, days 3 and 4 if not day 5 as well its at Lille, then its at Coventry for another couple of days, before it has a day at customs clearance, it spends another day at the Maidstone delivery hub, before it gets sent to the local delivery depot

On both the orders I paid £12.42 delivery charges, note to self, look into if DPD will do private deliveries/collections, if so, will use them for christmas present parcels to the UK, if the price is right

I used to use Scan a lot but it was number of years ago, back in the days when computer magazines were a 1/2" thick 3/4 of which was advertising so that should date it for you !

Their service was excellent then and it's pleasing to know that they are still in business and keeping up the standard.

PS: I wonder if Brexit will see a return to customs declarations and a reluctance from UK suppliers to ship to once again 'foreign' lands !

I have just received the second order from Scan, at 14.20 hrs, it was a small packet, 1 CPU & fan, 2 bars of memory, and 15cms long, 8 pin to 4 pin connector cable, again very well packed plenty of bubble wrap around the CPU box, plus an air bag to take up the space, all in cardboard box with a plastic outer envelope

I just cannot fault them, both for their stocks, prices, and delivery speed, Boulton in the UK to Ploeuc sur Lie in Brittany, in less than 2 days

I had a look at their Mac prices and they don't seem to be competitive. But they do have a fantastic selection of stuff for PC !

Give them a "bell" Blaze, and see what they can offer you, in my experience they are polite, and know what they are talking about

I'd rather buy locally as if there's a problem .... the prices locally vary too.

Just had a look at Scan Apple prices, and this one, Apple 15" Core i7 16GB Macbook Pro with Force Touch and 256GB SSD, would set you back about 1900.00€ and that allowing for £1.00 = 1.25 €, and with £20.00 post and packing, Rue du Commerce want 2467.99€ plus p&p, and Boulanger wanted 2799.00€, even FNAC wanted 2024.99€ with free p&p

Overpriced - maybe - but well styled. My daughters love them!

PCs - I am just assembling some bits for my son into a PC and I wish I had got some of the bits from Scan. Still, he is happy for the moment although is muttering about me beefing up the processor (I guess you have to be quick to shoot an alien warrior).

The problem with Windows is most pre-built systems come with 10 now. Still, a PC with Mint . . .

No thanks - I've used Macs for so long that trying to use a PC is a nightmare. Add to that a querty keyboard .... ~x(

Macs may well cost more but they seem to be a lot more trouble free than PCs ..... ;)
