Being totally unable to fathom such things (I daren't switch off speakerphone as it took so long to do it and am afraid wouldn't get it back again :( ) but can anyone tell me whether the number of rings before switching is governed by the phone or the provider. And in either case, how do I increase it?

Mine barely rings long enough to get out of my pocket before its gone. :o

I am looking for a new phone, one with big buttons, big texts, big numbers and louder voices :YMPRAY: but I need to be prepared in case the new one rings the same, about twice or thrice. X(

I don't think it's a function of the phone but the provider - who are you with?

Leclerc/Reglomobile, but I think the network used is SFR.

There is usually a setting that you can use from your phone via the keys or using the espace client. You will have to google it, cos I don't know off the top of my head.

Thanks Dave, I have checked settinggs over and over again but can find nothing connected to length of rings before voicemail.

As to customer service, I might try Leclerc tomorrow if the journey planned and just now cancelled is not resurrected, but if it is not them but SFR I think I am chasing a phantom. I have not had a good experience with them in the past.

There's no option to change it on either of our phones - v cheap phones, not smart at all, nor on Free (me) or Leclerc (him) that I could find so keep us posted.
I agree, we get too few rings

Just tested our 2 phones, different makes but same Leclerc sims.

Mine rings for 17 seconds, hers for 44. So it seems it is down to the phone not the provider.

Just out of interest I might try to contact Motorola, but the real test will be when my new Doro arrives on Friday.

Well, that was inspirational, not. After giving all the details to Mohammed at online support, he cut the link as soon as he found out I bought it in France. :-o

Think I'll wait till Friday. :)

The new Doro was waiting for me when I got home last night, Amazon's usual one day earlier than promised delivery. :ymapplause:

Got it all set up with my Leclerc/Reglo sim no trouble at all, but, tested this morning it is still only ringing for 17 seconds.

Contacted Reglomobile, with difficulty, and they came back to say that the number of rings can't be altered (funny that with my wife's being 44 secs), but that I could turn of the voicemail altogether.

Suits me, most failed callers don't leave a message and those that do could be rung back after seeing an unanswered call, but the only way I could find to do it was to deactivate the call divert facility. That failed each time with a message saying 'action incomplete'.

Can't find Doro anywhere so contacted Amazon. Very helpful, if a tad difficult to understand the accent, and they have sent me an email with all Doro's contact details.

Have sent them a message. On verra as they say round here.

Impatient to wait for Doro's reply, I rang them up. A very helpful young lady said that it was indeed a provider problem, that the voicemail couldn't be cancelled from the phone.

She then proceded to look up on line for Reglomobile (whom she had never heard of even though Doro are based in France, and seemed grateful to increase her knowledge bank), and came back with a phone number and a code for the right department.

I rang them and, after checking my ID, another young lady tapped away for a few seconds and 'voila' the repondeur is desactive.

Checked it out straight away and, although it doesn't go on for ever it rings for 44 seconds now before cancelling. Excellent result. :)

Life was so much simpler when all you could have was a landline and an immoveable phone.

It seemed to have everything I wanted at the right price.

Big letters, big numbers, big buttons and good volume.

So far, on an urgent trip to Liborne and back I have been well pleased.

In what way is it crap?

Expensive compared to a phone that would give you more and CLUNKY.

You do know that you can make the text and numbers bigger on a smart phone with a swipe?

No, but a smart phone is bigger and more expensive, with a lot of stuff I do not need. I want to make calls, send messages and recieve the same.

That's all. :)
