This site is very good to get your pictures the right size for an avatar

OK, I've been there... it asks me to set the Avatar size. What size do I choose?

The Avatar sizes are in User Control Panel> Profile > Edit Avatar.
Maximum dimensions; width: 90 pixels, height: 120 pixels, file size: 16.00 KiB

Nota Bene:
The programme you propose to use will effectively crop the image BUT it will not work on an animated image.
The main problem with animated images is that many will breach the file size permitted.

You need something that fits within the forum rules (shown in your user control panel):

Maximum dimensions; width: 90 pixels, height: 120 pixels, file size: 16.00 KiB.

Mine WAS 90 x 90 Liz.... and originally worked fine..... but....

I sent a reply ealier (immediately deleted!) as I'd done my avatar through the excellent site that DaveW recommended. Changed it yesterday, following the same procedure as before (i.e. saving it to file etc) and today, if I can read the text correctly it looks like it's saying ".... expired". I then realised that that I'd input the url on the control panel in the incorrect space.... so, have just gone back and reinput it I thought correctly, via the "browse" function from my filelist... and it still won't have it. Am confused, - how can a file stored on my system not be ok.... :?

Liz and Mudlarks - if you can e-mail me your original pictures I'll send them back to you ready for uploading as avatars (just this once...). I'll PM you both.
