Well, a refurbished one, but from Amazon with a 1 year guarantee.

Apart from frustrations which I expected with getting to grips with 10 for the first time, the thing that is really driving me mad is the fact that the screen darts up and down all the time, making it all but impossible to click on anything required.

My first thought was it was the 10, but now think it could be the machine.

The other thing is that I can't seem to scroll, either with the mouse wheel, or the slidy thing in the finger pad. The only way is with the side bar, but even that is overidden by the up and down motion.

Any ideas anyone?

I bought a "refurbished" hard disk from Amazon once.

It went straight back - probably with the same fault the original purchaser rejected it for.

Manufacturers refurbish - I have had several from Dell with no issues. Resellers just try to resell.

Amazon returns are pretty good - so I should not waste your time.

If you are happy with UK kit and can collect, aforementioned Dell Outlet is http://www.dell.com/uk/dfh/p/?~ck=mn&dg ... id=5090164

Hopefully someone will give you French equivalent.

Sorry to be bearer of bad news.

I can recommend this company, https://www.scan.co.uk/shop/computer-hardware/laptops-home-office/refurbished-laptops the link is for refurbished laptops, but what I buy is computer parts, they are cheaper or just as cheap, the delivery is superb and quicker than the French companies

Thanks all, sorry should have mentioned, it is a Dell Lattitude E 6410.

Just had an opinion from another source that it is indeed likely to be the machine not 10 at fault. Sort of what I thought.

I think that the best thing is to send it back and ask for a refund as it is not a vital purchase but just thought that it was a good offer to back up my ageing 2nd hand PC/Vista machine.

Time to think again but I'll let you all know what transpires.

Funny thing is that I rejected a Dell Vista some years ago when Vista was new and my expert friend converted my laptop back to XP. Which continued to give untroubled service for years until the lid hinge broke and I got fed up with propping it to prevent the connections breaking. 8-|

E6410 is a very old machine - maybe 2010/1 - the 1 means it is a first generation i3/i5/i7 (I use an E6220 from 2011/2 = second generation - with Windows 7!)

Scooby may have hit the nail on the head - Dell only offer XP, Vista and 7 drivers for it - although maybe generic ones will work?

It could just be worn out - if it has spent 6 or 7 years in an office environment.

My inclination is still to reject it.

Oh, you're sending me all misty eyed when you mention XP, still have that on the Dell sitting in the corner but with a broken hinge. 8-|

I have come to agree on the course of action, send it back and get the money, all I'll be down is a large chunk of postage.

I'll know more when I get back from Spain on Wednesday when there should be a message waiting for me from the seller.
