Quite out of the blue, we received a letter from the tax "police" in Limoges this morning asking us to explain undeclared 2013 income, citing various payments made into UK and Irish banks.

Neither of us has a bank account in Ireland, although I'm supposed to have received a total of €30 000 in "interest" from there. I should be so lucky - I'd need getting on for a million invested at current interest rates.

The other sums are modest and I'm sure we have already declared them on form 2047, via our accountants.

I find this unsettling (I'm not easily spooked) but I've drafted a reply to the Fisc and told them I'll be delighted to declare the 30k, so long as I receive it first...

It's frightening when you get some sort of control - or a nasty letter, particularly if it's unjustified. Where do they get their information ?

OH was quizzed on earnings from the army (French) due to a misunderstanding regarding payments to foreign military. A visit to our local (helpful) tax office sorted this out though he had to pay the majoration and has been ultra careful ever since. French businesses quake in their boots at the thought of a control, even if they're doing everything right. The system is unforgiving and does not pardon mistakes.

Best of luck, MAD :YMPRAY:

They get their info from foreign banks. Unless someone's been laundering money through us, it's noowt to do with us.

Maybe not as expensive though ;)

How typically French to have knee jerk laws overturned by more measured consideration !
