Greetings punters...nothing from me yet but hoping to get sorted tomorrow. Had a couple of issues........I had to go to the dentist the other morning with a knackered gnasher. The tooth wouldn't come out so the gum had to cut in three places and retracted back to the bone. The bone of the socket had to be drilled and burred away to expose the tooth and removed from the socket that way, the root was twisted behind the bone. Gum pushed back in and stitched back together....6 of them and they are irritating.

Not fun, it nailed my day off to get this comp sorted though!!

Hi Starless, sorry, I really struggled with this one - I kept hoping I'd find better vistas that would do your challenge justice. Couple of times I have come back and just deleted everything on the card! So I'm not really happy with what I've posted, but in the spirit of participation have at least contributed something - albeit a bit last minute-ish as we've just spent the evening at A&E. OH has broken his collar bone - argh!

Poor you, Sue - not the way anyone wants to spend Christmas Day. Hope your OH isn't too uncomfortable :(

Thanks Blaze for the sympathy. They were fantastic with him. He was in a lot of pain and passed out. :( I'm just relieved to know that it's no worse and he's now strapped up and safely home. (He's feeling stupid because he went out in the dark with the dog without a torch and fell over a low broken wall following her as she did a short cut across the lawn)

Blimey, Sue! Not really what you'd want for Christmas. I hope he's comfortable and gets sorted soon.

Thanks for entering the comp. It's not as easy as you might think, is it? But it really is worthwhile if you get it right. I've started the "marking" and I'll get back top it later.

What's the view on Dr O's suggestion we increase the photo size (maybe to 1000 px wide X 800 px high - as he did in the assignment)?

I have a larger than average screen so it's not a problem for me. I thought we originally chose 640 max so people didn't have to scroll?

I'm happy to go with whatever seems to be the preferred view when I set challenge 6 (and if you don't express an opinion, I'm going to assume you're happy with Dr O's suggestion)

Hi All, not been around much the last couple of weeks however, put three images in the comp. We're working 12 on 12 off so just snatched some pics of whats in the shed though I rather have got out and about somewhere.

Happy New Year everyone.

Just wanted to check in with everyone re the size we've now moved to for both the challenge and the assignment. When Dr O suggested the change he proposed maximum 1000 wide and 800 high. I think that's because most monitors are rectangular and whereas 1000 wide does not require scrolling, 1000 high may do on some screens. I've got a large screen, so 1000 high does not bother me - does anyone else have a problem? If it is a problem for some people, we may need to spell out the width v height dimensions and square images should then be 800 x 800 max.

I'm going for 1000px max wide and 800px max high. That's just about the max for my 19" screen. Dr O has a 22"! :o

Interesting point, Sue.

If anyone has a small screen and cannot see the larger photos, that they can reduce the window size by using Ctrl -.
I've tried it and it works fine.

I've got a 17" screen and on the window size I usually use, I can see Andrew's lovely Puss Puss without needing to scroll - and it's 1000 pixels high.

Perhaps as you suggest, we should go firm on 1000px wide and 800px wide and for square photos, max 800x 800px.

 It's Starless's fault, he should have put a warning in the title of his challenge, knowing the content of Pixies lyrics. x_x

Sorry about that, SPJ.

I did say I didn't expect people to find out more than just the titles, but didn't expressly say why! I should have known better with M&R around!

It could have been....and still could be....worse! :o

I've got to say, I'm really enjoying this challenge, even without being in it!

Of course I'll join in! I have the advantage of having heard all the lyrics many times....."Bloody your hand on a cactus tree,
Wipe it on your dress and send it to me."Now, where's my missus? B-) B-) B-)
Come on......I'm dying to see what you come up with. :D

I don't think you'd want to read the lyrics - they're pretty depressing :(

No they weren't. I just didn't expect you to! Of course, you'd only get the "mood" by reading the lyrics. Are you sure you spent 3 hours? :-?

Blaze, they aren't depressing.....oh well, maybe just a bit!

So now the Pixies comp has finished, I'd like to know some background to the photos.

My 'lovely day' was taken using a ten second timer, (I don't have a remote) it was 2 deg outside and the grass was wet. The dress is chiffon and I had nothing on my feet (in case they got in shot) It was a rush to press the shutter, run, pull the skirt out , place the money on it (English money  ) and pose before the timer went off! Oh how we suffer for our art!
Rob obviously followed that weird ball of light that went over the other night. ;)
So where did you get all the blood from?

Ketchup!

However, it's surprising how much of the colour from ketchup isn't red, but orange/yellow. I had to desaturate those colours too else the blood didn't look right. If you look carefully you'll see other lines along the red which are the desaturated ones.

I'd guess Dr O used real blood! ;)
