After 4 years of living in a new house I have decided I really must decorate. My excuse that the plaster is drying out is now wearing a bit thin. I have bought some sous-couche from Leroy Merlin and have, so far, applied one coat to the dirtiest spot, behind the fire.

It is drying a little 'patchy'. Is it usual to apply two coats? There is absolutely no clue on the tin.

Alternatively perhaps I should not worry as I am just using this as a sealant. I do have emulsion to cover it later.

Many thanks for any advice.

As a general rule expect to apply at least 3 coats of any paint, this is France after all :))

If your final emulsion is much more expensive I would apply another coat of sous=couche to get a better cover, then your emulsion.

Clare

p.s. Don't be surprised if the second coat looks like you've spread grey milk over the walls, as it dries it will go white ;)

Diluted PVA does the job.

Thanks Frank - I have found that Luxens sous couche as recommended by Leroy Merlin has done the job brilliantly. Well I say done the job brilliantly but the painter has been slacking off recently. You can't get the staff these days.

note to self - finish the job
