If you are in a hard water area

Water softeners

There are two types of water softener that might do you,

1) A salt regeneration type

2) A Sil-Phos type

1) Changes the composition of the water by ion exchange the water is softened but the unit needs to be charged up with salt for it to be able to work, and needs to be back-washed when regenerating the ion exchange, also the salt water (the brine) needs to be run to waste

2) This changes the calcaire in the water to a non depositing kind of hard water, when the Sil-Phos balls in the container are used up the container needs to be refilled with Sil-Phos balls

The choice is yours, for the positioning of the unit a regenerating type should be placed after the main inlet valve but after a cold water draw off point that feeds the kitchen sink, a sil-phos type should be fitted in the same place but a cold water draw off point to the kitchen sink does not matter because the water is still hard

The only reason for a hard water draw off point at the kitchen sink is that the doctors are of the opinion that soft water is bad for the heart
