We have recently bought another property - house has not been lived in for about 3 years as owner went into retraite. We have received taxe fonciere invoice for our share for the year and although the amount for the whole year is less then 500 euro we were wondering if anyone would know if it is possible for us to apply for a revaluation as the house has fallen into total disrepair since it has been empty and is totally uninhabitable and may result in a lesser bill.

You can try but it really does have to be a complete wreck. First stop take details & photos & a smile too your local Hotel des Impots, and talk about both taxe fonciere & taxe d'habitation. Don't just send a letter.
If you don't ask you don't get.

Don't think you will have much luck, over the years I have purchased a few old properties here, one not lived in for over a hundred years another for 25 years, still had to pay the foncieres.

The tax foncière is a tax on the land, regardless of what is on it, so will be unaffected by the state of the house, unlike the tax d'habitation.
However, as Liz says, it's worth a trip to your local tax office - a personal visit can work wonders !

Tax fonciere is also on the buildings on the said land.

You're right, Papi, I worded it very badly - it's a tax on ownership of land and buildings, even if no-one is actually living there.
